The Best Bars on Île de Ré

  • Head straight to Réglisse Bar on Rivedoux Beach—it’s been an institution for over 20 years. This beach shack (one of the few on the island) offers a magical and colorful setting facing the ocean, right on the sand. It’s the perfect spot for a drink with friends early in the evening and some tapas by the sea.
  • La Java des Baleines in St Clément des Baleines is a magical place set under an open tent. Part guinguette, part bar, part concert hall, and part dance floor, La Java offers all of that along with food trucks for quick bites and giant games for kids and adults alike! A unique atmosphere, an unusual venue, and unforgettable nights await.
  • If you’re in the mood to dance all night and pump up the decibels, head to La Pergola in La Couarde. The second iconic spot on our list, this dancing beach bar was established in 1936 and has been hosting generations for wild, festive summer nights ever since. The music is varied and eclectic to ensure everyone has fun starting at 10 PM. Don’t miss its ultra-charming terrace with Mediterranean vibes, perfect for sipping a drink on warm summer evenings.
  • Le 120 in Ars-en-Ré is an alternative bar, a crossroads for artistic creation. Meet friendly patrons, grab a drink, listen to a concert, catch a play, or spend the evening with friends on its adorable little terrace. Feeling peckish? Be sure to order from the pizza truck on site.
  • Ben-Hur Char à Huîtres in Saint-Martin-de-Ré is a must-visit on the island. This outdoor restaurant, enhanced by an authentic, restored fishing boat, specializes in seafood. Enjoy fish and seafood, fresh off the day’s catch, served raw or grilled on the plancha, paired with wines from the Île de Ré region. The terrace, with its colorful tables and chairs, adds to the already convivial atmosphere, creating a festive yet laid-back vibe. Open daily in season from 11:30 AM to 10:30 PM.
  • For sporty types who aren’t into late-night fun, try out a variety of water sports such as windsurfing or paddleboarding on the island.
